What’s the Difference Between Them?

In contrast, non-ferrous metals do not have this. Typically, ferrous metals or metals with iron are common or easy to come by. Hence, with more supply, the amount you will receive if you sell them is lower. The prices do not fluctuate either, remaining constant.

In contrast, non-ferrous metals are quite scarcer. They’re also highly valued because they don’t suffer from corrosion or rusting when exposed to environmental elements. Thus, these factors drive the price higher when you sell them. But either way, both Ferrous & Non-Ferrous Metal Recycling will earn you some cash, so don’t just dump your scraps into the landfill. Recycling them is still the best option.

What are the Examples of Metals?

Both ferrous and non-ferrous metals can be found in different structures and inventions around you. In fact, many metals around your home or business are recyclable. Let’s take a look at the examples below:

1. Ferrous Metals
These are very strong, with superior longevity and durability. They are commonly found in automobiles, transportation, construction work, agricultural machinery, home appliances, etc. Ferrous metals are at risk for rust because of high carbon elements.

However, exceptions to corrosion include wrought iron, cast iron, and stainless steel. The iron ones have very low carbon, so they resist oxidation. Wrought iron is mostly pure iron, while cast iron contains only 2% carbon and has silicon. In the same token, stainless steel is infused with chromium, so it deters rust, too. If you want to test your metal, get a magnet as the ferrous ones are magnetic. Examples of this are:

• Wrought iron like chains, nuts, bolts, ornamental fences, and old pipes.
• Stainless steel alloy found in cooking tools, sinks, medical equipment, cutlery, storage tanks, construction supplies, food processing equipment, and the like.
• Cast iron is found in old pipe, vehicle parts, machine, old pots and pans.

2. Non-Ferrous Metals
This type of metal is valued for its strength and lightweight. They are less dense and scarcer, so they are prized. On top of that, they possess better malleability and are not magnetic. The main example of this one is the metal used for aeroplanes. You can also find them in electrical wiring, water pipes, roofing material, and gutters. Examples of this are:

• Copper is highly identifiable because it Is a soft red metal that acts as a good vessel for heat and electricity. It is commonly found in sheet roofing, wires, and motors.
• Aluminium is another metallic element that’s soft and ductile. This doesn’t corrode easy and possesses low density. They’re used for building facade, some types of pots and pans, transportation, aircraft carriers, and window frames.
• Brass is a combination of copper and zinc, making it look bright gold. As such, it is mostly used for ornamental reasons. Brass can be found in doorknobs, gears, locks, zippers, horns, bells, fittings, and other plumbing fixtures.

What to Do with These Metals?
